The Maroc Challenge family is shrouded in profound sadness today following the heartbreaking news that Perico Dueñas, our beloved Trackman, passed away in the early hours of this morning after a period of illness.
Perico was far more than just a member of our technical team; he was a cornerstone of our community and a vital architect of the journey we undertake every year. His journey with us began in 2011, during the very first edition of the Maroc Challenge. Since those early days, he played an indispensable role in the growth, evolution, and ultimate success of the event. Through every shifting dune and every challenging kilometer, Perico was there, ensuring our safety and guiding our path.
To many of us, he was the steady hand in the desert, a constant presence who helped transform a racing event into a legendary adventure. His expertise was matched only by his dedication to the spirit of the challenge.
Perico, your absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but your influence is etched into the very sands we traverse. You will always be with us on our adventures through the desert. Guided by your star, we promise to remain faithful to the legacy you have left behind, carrying your passion forward in every expedition we undertake.
For those wishing to pay their final respects, the funeral chapel at the Municipal Funeral Home of El Burgo de Ebro (Zaragoza) will be open today, 29 September, from 16:30 to 20:00, and tomorrow, 30 September, from 10:30 to 13:00 and again from 15:30.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow, 30 September, at 17:00 at the Church of San Pedro Apóstol in El Burgo de Ebro.
