Daelyn Brock Godfrey, a 13-year-old student from Rome, Georgia, died on September, 2026, leaving his family, friends and school community grieving the loss of a young life filled with curiosity, humor and personality. Daelyn was an eighth-grade student at Rome Middle School, where he was part of the marching band and played tenor saxophone. His obituary describes a boy who had a distinctive way of seeing the world and who brought his own energy and character to the people around him.
Born in Rome on October 15, 2012, Daelyn was remembered for the many interests that made his childhood uniquely his own. He loved playing Minecraft, baseball, climbing trees and rocks, reading and spending time with animals. He especially enjoyed watching thunderstorms and the flashes of lightning in the sky. His dog, Tillie Mae, was particularly special to him, with his family recalling the affection he had for his favorite four-legged companion. Daelyn was also a member of West Rome Baptist Church, where he took part in the youth group and spent time with friends.
At school, Daelyn was more than a name on a class roster. His involvement in the marching band and his tenor saxophone gave him a place within the Rome Middle School community, while his willingness to try new things reflected the adventurous spirit described by his family. Daelyn’s family will hold a visitation and Celebration of Life on October 4 at West Rome Baptist Church, giving relatives, friends and members of the community an opportunity to gather in his memory. The family has asked those attending to wear their favorite hoodie in his honor, a simple and personal tribute to something so closely associated with him. In lieu of flowers, they have asked people to purchase a Bible and share it with someone in need. Daelyn Brock Godfrey’s life was brief, but the memories of his humor, curiosity, music, love of animals and distinctive personality will remain with those who knew him.
