William Toney Viggins, Obituary, 63, Man Dies After Health Related Crash in Columbus School Parking Lot
A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday morning near Hannan Elementary Magnet Academy in Columbus, resulting in the death of a local man following a single-vehicle accident.
The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 63-year-old William Toney Viggins. According to Coroner Buddy Bryan, the incident began when Viggins’ vehicle entered the school parking lot, striking two other vehicles before coming to a stop.
Following the collision, Viggins was rushed to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:38 a.m.
While the crash caused property damage, the Coroner’s Office clarified that the primary cause of death was medical in nature rather than the impact of the accident itself. Bryan stated that Viggins died due to complications stemming from cardiac arrest and noted that there were no signs of blunt-force trauma related to the crash.
Authorities have confirmed that Viggins’ family members have been notified of the passing. The investigation into the specific circumstances surrounding the medical emergency remains ongoing.
